Lava

This work is in progress, return for more..

Lava #1.  India ink, watercolor, and etching.  6”x6”” on Clayboard.

Details:  The infamous lava lamp’s mesmerizing forms and flows  convey the temporality of geological and biological processes as well as their tension and transformative power.  I am drawn to their association with popular culture (as pure entertainment and waste), and their physical similaritires to speech or comic bubbles.

Detail drawings are ways we architect and communicate how things are made.  In the formation of the planet, molten rock is a fluid medium cast into the creation of new landscapes.
